Become a Teacher

LAHSA teachers are Los Angeles Unified School District employees and must adhere to district standards and guidelines, and are covered by UTLA bargaining agreements. LAHSA hires teachers from the applicant pool maintained by LAUSD.

The District seeks fully certified, NCLB-compliant educators who are experts in their content area, innovative, pedagogically strong, and professionally committed to the welfare and demonstrated academic growth of all students.  Additionally, candidates must be committed to ensure that all students graduate college-prepared and career-ready. 

 

Teacher candidates who hold a teaching credential / certificate must meet the following minimum LAUSD employment standards:

• Successful completion of the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).
• Completion of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.*
• Meet the Federal legislation, "HR1 No Child Left Behind Act of 2001", definition of a "Highly Qualified" teacher

As a Pilot School, LAHSA teachers contribute to, and are bound by, an Elect to Work Agreement that outlines their responsibilities.
